How about Chuck’s banh mi sandwiches?
How about someone looking at a map? Carroll Gardens is South Brooklyn only to a few younger, newer inhabitants of the borough. As in, south of williamsburg? Sorry, but it just isn’t so.
According to wikipedia
South Brooklyn is a composite neighborhood in the New York City borough of Brooklyn, encompassing areas of Carroll Gardens, Cobble Hill, Red Hook, Gowanus, and Boerum Hill. Thus it forms the western half of the territory of Brooklyn Community Board 6. The portion of the IND Culver Line that runs along Smith Street in South Brooklyn was originally known as the South Brooklyn Line. The New York City Police Department’s 76th Precinct on Union Street serves South Brooklyn.
It is named for its location, south of the original City of Brooklyn. It became the southern part of the City in the middle 19th century, and is northwest of the center of the modern borough. This somewhat historic name has been revived in recent years to foster a closer connection among the constituent communities, though the name has always been popular nomenclature for the neighborhood’s locals. Since the early 50’s, some kids growing up in the areas that make up South Brooklyn have affiliated under the name South Brooklyn Boys.[1]
The area is not to be confused with the actual southern region of the modern borough of Brooklyn, usually called “southern Brooklyn” or “the southern tier”, which spans the neighborhoods of Sheepshead Bay and Coney Island, for example
Sorry my cantankerous chum! You are mistaken.
The transition from a rustic village to a 2Oth century community had begun in Bay Ridge. The new population was not content to live in houses without running water or burning kerosene lamps at night. They demanded water, gas, sewers, paved roads and rapid transit.
Progress towards developing these improvements accelerated in 1894, when the town of Nieuw Utrecht was annexed to the City of Brooklyn, and again in 1898, when Brooklyn was annexed to New York.
So basically Bay Ridge was swallowed by Brooklyn.
Who cares what its called there pizza is real good
Bay Ridge, you embarass me, as we share our neighborhood.
South Brooklyn Pizza is the BOMB. If you think anything else, you’re simply mistaken.
“[M]y cantankerous chum”! What more does a guy have to say to spark a good old fashion Hipster v. Cranky Olde Timer comments brawl?
Wdegraw, you have me all figured out.
Very disappointing.
Who cares if he imported an antique pizza oven from Naples if he doesn’t know what to do with it?
The pizza was late and when it did arrive it was charred to a crisp.
1 hour wait?????
Bland-charred pizza!
Will never go back.
Don’t see what all the fuss is…the pizza is not so good and expensive.
hm what to say i love han’s the pizza is good but i do have to agree with all of you. the pizza is good until you get to the crust sometimes. it is expensive when it is chard. i do love the pizza joint on henry too. i hate to say anything bad about the place but sir you have to wake up being in the news papers aren’t going to help you for much longer, i hope im wrong.
oh and by the way we are south brooklyn, go back to williamsberg
Blaring music, obnoxious waitresses, charred pizza….what more can you ask for?
and when the hell are they going to get some toppings?
I’ll go with the blaring music and charred pizza bit, but the waitresses are nice.
They could definitely use some toppings. We’ve been enjoying Marco Polo take-out pizzas lately. Since we have a 3 month old, Hanley’s South Brooklyn Pizza is not such viable option compared to Marco Polo.
Lucali’s still get’s by #1 vote.
South Brooklyn might be tied with #3 since they’re less than 200 ft from our front door.
Holy fried pizza! They must have had the pizza in the oven the whole hour I waited. I like a good chared crust – but this was insane.
I went with a friend – at least I could taste the pizza because I couldn’t hear a word my friend said due to the blaring C+C Music Factory. uggh….
Can someone tell me why they are only open from 5-11, 3-4 days a week?
I went once and had a iffy experience (slightly burnt pizza)and tried to go back – but they were closed.
when are the toppings coming?
