The New and Improved St. Clair Restaurant
According to the sign in the window, the New St. Clair Restaurant (at the corner of Atlantic and Smith streets) opens for business tomorrow. I can’t actually say I went to the old one, but the new one sure looks nice.

I remember going there for breakfast while hungover from the night before at The Brooklyn Inn when I lived on Smith St in 1996-7 or so.
LOL
Looks great.
Yeah, looks all fancy ‘n shit now. I’m guessing the food is much the same judging from the glance of the menu through the window.
Say what you will about our beloved St. Claire, but the rice pudding was the best in the city. Plus, it was fun to see the same staff there year after year. They watched my son grow up. I will miss them.
Not really saying much about the food since I’m not quite familiar with it other than it was standard diner fare. I was quite a fan of an old classic in Atlanta called the Majestic. That place had quite a few detractors, but it always had a warm place in my heart.
Thanks for posting the pics! I have fond memories of the old St. Clair’s–it was just a good, solid diner, where you didn’t have to pay $3.50 for a bagel–and it looks like they just cleaned out the decor and spruced it up a bit. But what will the prices be like?
I was just there this past weekend. I’d been contentedly munching half of my burger, when my plate exploded. Okay, it spontaneously shattered, sending shards down onto the floor and smearing me with ketchup. Hmmmmm! They were apologetic, but didn’t give me my meal for free. And they kept apologizing to my husband, not me. I thought that was strange.
I ate there for the first and last time last weekend. Breakfast for my grandson and me was $25.00 with tip and all I had was eggs with toast and hash browns and coffee. I could eat at Siggy’s in Brooklyn Heights for the same money and everything there is organic.
Plus the staff is rude, their card processing machine doesn’t work properly and the food is no better than it was before. I will NEVER go back there.
