New Store Alert: Mongo, Homage
This yet unfilled store is on the west side of Smith Street near Douglass, across from Copy Cottage. Its storefront is below.
Also new and open on Smith: Homage at 151 Smith Street (near Bergen), a skate shop in summer with snowboarding gear planned for fall.

Ha. I thought the same thing.
“Awwwwww. Mongo straight.”
Not sure of the meaning behind the name, but Mongo is being opened by the couple who live on Sackett Street who design and manufacture the Ohm clothing and home lines, which currently are sold in a limited number of boutiques. They hand-make all of their clothing/bedding in their space in Clinton Hill and have been holding occasional sample sales in Arts Cetera on Smith for a couple of years now. Looks like they are finally expanding into their own retail space — definitely looking forward to seeing their unique design perspective on the street.
I work in the air line industry and a passenger got on the flight i was working and had a very cool computer like/shoulder bag made out of whet looked like old rubber from tires. He said ” a relative of his opened up a new store called “mongo” and said look it up on-line. After googling it, this is the only one I can find. Does anyone have any updated information on this store? He also had on a cool jacket, also from the store. Any information would be appreciated. thanks in advance.

The handbag selection is particularly inventive, with black totes by Colorado-based label English Retreads made from old tires, seat belts, and semitruck-tire inner tubes, and Gecko Traders’ recycled market bags crafted from Asian rice and feed bags.
