Couple ‘O Greenpoint Bars

Published by Erin at 10:28 pm under Food and Drink, Greenpoint

Spent Saturday night running around Greenpoint. Started at the new Diamond Bar on Franklin Street. A long beer list, mostly bottled, augmented by a slightly too well-lit front room and a lovely back patio. Friendly folks, but no buy-backs–and there was a birthday in the house! Moved on to Pencil Factory, which felt like the oldest crowd on the block, and definitely the most happening sidewalk patio. The draft beer list was impressive, as was the loft across the street that I desperately wish I would have bought 10 years ago. The view below is from the sidewalk, looking across to Lulu’s.

Lulu’s is a hipster paradise: A free-for-all space, which last night was hosting a pretty awful punk band. Nonetheless, the free hot dog with every drink deal was appreciated. Also, skee-ball, which we didn’t get to try due to the band. We skipped nearby Coco66 due to the unappealing crowd outside smoking, but the inside looked nice. The verdict: Greenpoint, just as cool as Williamsburg but with about 1/10 of the people roaming the streets.

NO! We’re not as cool! Not cool at all!
Nothing to see here, move along.
    G train! Is awful!
You don’t want to come here.
Or if you do, for the love of god remember it’s a neighborhood and not the Lower East Side. We live here. Be quiet when you walk out of theese places.

Yeah, I heard Greenpoint is a total dump, and all the people are jerks, and the nightlife sucks, and et cetera.
    Aw hell it’s too late.

ABSOLUTELY! the hood is toxic. the people are mean. there’s an oil spill, and now the local co is producing methane gas as alternative fuel. it takes forever to get to the subway, or you have to TAKE A BUS to get to the L train. the only part that’s any good is franklin street. and DSL and broadband DON’T WORK OVER HERE. that’s why everybody has dish TV. and the rent is expensive anyway. DON’T BUY DON’T BUY DON’T BUY!

For the record I think LuLu’s changed their name to Lost & Found.
You should check out the new Black Rabbit on Greenpoint Ave btwn Franklin and Manhattan or one of my newer faves Jack O’Neills on Franklin.
Both places have really nice owners and barkeeps.
