New Store Alert: K&Y Fruit
There's a new fruit and veggie market in the neighborhood and it might qualify as the neighborhood's largest, though it comes without any of the "gourmet" bells and whistles that seem to accompany most openings recently. And that is a compliment--less flash, lower prices--and do your vegetables really need chichi surroundings? K&Y fruit and vegetable is at 291 Court Street, between Degraw and Douglass.

Turns out that Mr. Lee, the lovely owner of my favorite fruit stand on Atlantic Avenue owns this store as well. I peeked in there and it looks nice and clean and the quality & prices are the same as on Atlantic. Now I don't have to lug fruits & veggies as far AND i don't have to feel guilty about ditching Mr. Lee!
whoops - that comment was from me... Adam just eats what I buy. :)
I was surprised to see Adam taking such a serious role in the fruits and vegetable procurement.
ah, love the veg shop on atlantic!
I used to trek to the veggie stand on atlantic (near Sahadi's) from Sackett St. I've been to K&Y a few times now and am happy to have good fruit and veggies so close. (This adam takes a serious role in fruit and veggies procurement. I'm also pretty excited that they went with K&Y.
Just for the record, I once spent 5 minutes trying to pick out the finest papaya available at a Whole Foods so I could ensure the salsa I would then make would be as delicious as possible.
I've also been known to manhandle countless grapefruits, going to great lengths to discover the firmest, juiciest grapefruits possible so my wife and I could enjoy our weekend brunch and sink our teeth into the best tasting grapefruit this side of Henry St.
