More Fun With Real Estate
This is a new building going up on Kane at Tiffany Place, west of the BQE. Not sure if there’s been chatter about it before, but it looks quite nice (not a Fedders in sight). It also overlooks cobblestoned Tiffany, which is one of my favorite streets in this neighborhood. Of course, there is the extreme proximity to the BQE to deal with (that big gap between buildings is the BQE), but I’m guessing that houses that front the sunken BQE fare much better than those that front the elevated portion of the highway. Thoughts? (Also, I tagged this as both Carroll Gardens and Red Hook b/c people call it both … it’s so on the CG line, though, one might even be tempted to call it Cobble Hill West!)

I live right around the corner and have been watching this one go up– definitely much prettier than it’s new-building neighbor at Hicks and Baltic (covered in Fedders).
As for the neighborhood, I’ve heard everything from Cobble Hill West to The Columbia Street Waterfront District. It’s definitely silly to call this corner “Red Hook” because it’s only like 5 blocks south of Atlantic. My friends like to call our little spot “The Wild Wild West.”
I like “Wild Wild West”. I hope all the brokers are listening! I like to call Red Hook.. “West Virginia”
Some friends used to live in a building facing the BQE (granted it was an older building) but they said it shook a little bit — but all the time — due to the trucks
The cost of homes is on the decline. Buyers get out and negotiate!
I live right behind it, with my bedroom facing it. It seems they only seem to do any loud work on it from 7am-noon, which is my prime sleeping time.. (i work afternoon/evenings). Anyways, being on the 4th floor right next to the BQE, I can say that the expressway has a gentle, almost ocean-like constant sound, as the car noises are reverberating around the high walls. I’ve only been woken up once from sirens. After living 3 years on 4th ave in “Park Slope” (another borderline between sketch and pretty ‘hoods), this is certainly peaceful. And the B61 stops right on the corner, so for lazy days, it’s not a big deal to get to the trains.
