ABL:Radio – Rarefied Splendor – Mixed by HipGnosis
Before returning to our established troupe of DJs, we though it would be nice to drop another splendid guest into your mp3 player. This week’s episode my be a little shorter than usual, but it’s jam packed with heavenly mix of experimental hip-hop beats brought to you by HipGnosis (Eric Young).
Since ‘96, Eric has been DJing and tinkering with electronic music. His early influences range from the psychedelic sounds of Pink Floyd, to minimal techno and acid house. More recently, he adopted the name HipGnosis and embarked on a quest to infuse some of the energy and sounds of electronic music into the world of hip-hop. In 2005, he released "META," the first album under his new name. In ‘06 Eric formed his own independent record label, HipGnosis Music, where he released his own music and the works of other artists.
While you won’t find his own music on today’s episode, you will get a sense of his foundations and what direction he’s headed. In coming weeks, we will have a follow-up containing selections from his own label. I’m looking forward to it!
