Atlantic Antic Wrap-Up
One much discussed topic over the weekend was the appearance of words Atlantic Antic in the Beastie Boys "Shadrack" from Paul’s Boutique: "So I’m out pickin’ pockets at the Atlantic Antic." We saw no pickpockets, but I thought I’d wrap up with my best of list.
Best place to buy beer: In front of Brazen Head, where Sixpoint was only $3 a cup-full.
Best place for hangover food: At Soul Spot, where a complete jerk dinner was only $6!
Best people watching: In front of Hank’s, which looked less intimidating than usual.
Best "costume": The girl wandering around with white hair and a pink and white dress, which resembled a wedding cake.
Best surprisingly good food: The fried fish cakes from Stir it Up.
Best thing I wished I could have bought: The leopard print bar, with matching leopard print bar stools.
Have something to add? (Maybe a worst of …)

Jerk chicken wings from Stir It Up, bahn mi from Nicky’s (MUCH better than Hanco’s…but where’s the hot sauce!)
Was trying to figure out how to make the red & leopard stiletto-heel-shaped matching lounge chairs match my decor, but I would have had to completely redo our entire living room. Of course, then I could have thrown in the two massive antique thrones (one red, one gold).
I second the chicken wings! Stir it Up was amazing. Also – Who knew there were so many placemats for sale in Brooklyn?
LOVED the transit museum busses. NYC obviously has a rich history of discomfort. At least now transit has A/C, though. Not complaining.
Was so full by the end of the day, I had to pay a visit to the Prayer Station.
Worst thing…Ratner’s evil minion, aka The Nets, shilling for him with their hoops booth. Also, evil Marty Markowitz sitting and looking smug. He’s lucky I didn’t smack him.
One of the best things…the iced tea lady singing her iced tea song in front of the baptist church near Bond. Their fried chicken also rocks, even if the pastor does support AY.
Best performance: the kids of Upbring Dance Company!
Best novelty items for sale: sushi-shaped pillows, especially the edamame
Did anyone shake hands with the guy from TheKidFromBrooklyn.com? Didn’t look like he was moving much autographed attire, but definitely the highlight of my walk.
I can’t BELIEVE I missed the Kid from Brooklyn!!! Where was he?
Best Celebrity Spotting: Kate Bosworth in Sterling Place. She had her dog. She’s also super-tiny in real life, but still very cute.
Something tells me that bar set hasn’t been sold yet… it might have been the price – I dunno, call me crazy. Maybe if we all save our pennies…
