Red Hook Jumps on the Outdoor Movie Train

Blockparty

Finally an outdoor summer movie close to the neighborhood: What a fab idea. The coalition of community groups putting on the Brooklyn project have arranged for the Red Hook Movies in the Parks to include short films by Hook Productions, a group we’ve been meaning to talk about for some time anyway. The screenings move around between area Red Hook parks (see schedule below). The first, Dave Chappelle’s "Block Party" takes place at the Red Hook Community Farm.

July 29: Dave Chappelle’s Block Party [at the farm]
August 5: The Wiz [at Coffey Park]
August 12: Crooklyn [at Valentino Pier]
August 19: The Future of Food [at Red Hook Community Farm]
August 26: E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial  [at Coffey Park]
Sept. 2: Madea’s Family Reunion [at Valentino Pier]
Sept. 9: Wallace and Grommit: The Curse of The Were-Rabbit [at Red Hook Community Farm]
Sept. 16: The Italian Job [at Coffey Park]
Sept. 23: Pirates of the Caribbean [at Valentino Pier]

Don’t forget to thank the groups who made it happen: Red Hook Community Justice Center, SuperProjects, Added Value and Hook Productions with support from Partnerships for Parks and the Brooklyn Greenway Initiative.

BTW: If you’re in Williamsburg and craving some outdoor movie action, you might want to check out the L Mag’s Summer Screening series. It runs Tuesdays through Aug 22 and 28. Its most appropriate showing might be The Swimmer on the 15th, but the coolest one looks like Style Wars on August 26.

W went to the Block Party screening last night- good times! We sat on bales of hay, which felt very farm-like. And as an added bonus, the fabulous tacos and pupusa stands that have been gettin so much press lately are right around the corner…
