Fire Island Scenes
So we had a weekend at Ocean Beach on Fire Island. It doubtless would have been better if the sun shined, if we didn’t get totally soaked while trying to make our way to the Sunken Forest (we turned around), or if our hotel (Cleggs) hadn’t been right across from CJ’s, which has the distinction of being the island’s loudest bar. And it’s not the music being played that’s particularly loud, it’s the music being sung at the top of many drunken lungs that’s loud, especially at 3 in the morning. But I speak like an old salty Brooklyn curmudgeon, which I am hopefully not. Here are a couple of endearing shots.
The question on everybody’s mind, drunk or not: How did the deer get on the island?
The diversity of housing styles and decorations was one of my favorite features of the island.
Ah a bit of humor from one of the islanders.

They’re endearing, those deer, but they’re kind of mangey, if you look close. There’s apparently a lot of ticks in the grass they hang out in, so don’t get too close!
If Dennis had asked I would have told him to never, ever, go to Ocean Beach. If Fire Island had an A$%hole, that’s where it would be.
There is more to Fire Island than Ocean Beach… the special havens are the outlying communities. To find them though, you either have to know someone or you just gotta poke around!
