Red Hook: Open for Business
I can’t seem to get enough of Red Hook lately. Today we biked around the neighborhood and discovered a great pier overlooking the water on Coffee Street (see Google satellite imagery for a nice photo). We also biked by the Red Hook soccer fields, and the Latin food stands are operational. I see some authentic, tasty Latin fare in my immediate future.

I can’t remember the full story -or even if its true, but the Red Hook soccer fields were built with (at the time) state of the art astroturf. Shortly after they were finished, some hood burnt the turf off of the field.
I can Remember when Red Hook was filled with Drugs & Violence. Since the 80’s, I’ve seen a great turn around. Today May 1, 2006, I saw more police on my block since shootings in 1988, 1989 & 1990 combined. It just means that Red Hook will get the notoriety it deserves and to me that’s Brooklyn’s Best kept secret. The Church is even being filled again with people of hope. Thank God!
