Of Burger and Donuts

Two topics that are close to ABrooklynLife’s gullet: burgers and donuts. Leave it to the New York Times’ Frank Bruni to connect the two in his new blog that seems meant to create warm fuzzies between the reigning food critic and the commoner through Bruni’s pedestrian episodes at Hooters and Mars 2112.

Frank brings us what is quite possibly the most disgusting food combination ever. Krispy Kreme, have you sunk so low that you think you need a burger sandwiched between two of your highly caloric offerings actually improves your image?

I do love a good, hot Krispy Kreme glazed donut (which I have never had in New York City), but defiling either burger or donut with the other is just … unacceptable. What makes this worse is that the Gateway Grizzlies apparently got the idea from Mulligan’s, a tavern in my recent home of Atlanta. Turns out the restaurant has a bacon cheeseburger served on a Krispy Kreme donut bun that the general manager of the team found enticing. Unless the Gateway Grizzlies also provide a gateway drug at the gate, I’m guessing that people won’t be buying.

Oh, and this makes the Schnack wheat bun seem downright acceptable.

I’ll keep an open mind until I’ve tried it. My great-great-great-great-great grandfather was eating a chocolate candy bar while in a sword fight against some Frenchman in a big hat with a feather in it who happened to be eating from a jar of peanut butter. Well, in the heat of battle, they collided and the candy bar went into the peanut butter jar. At first, they were both grossed out and pissed about the fate of their snacks, but, well – you know the rest.

When I had to gain wait for my job last year, I went on a one a day Krispy Kreme donut regime. I had all the addresses of the local Krispy Kremes in my phone so I could find them at snack time wherever I was. It was heaven.
They have the best donuts, they’re small and they melt in your mouth. Unlike the stodgy DD ones. I can’t even eat a non-plain-glazed one. The plain glazed is perfection. Anything on it (or in it) is just utter nonsense. Superflous.

You guys are welcome to bring in your donuts and we will be happy to substitute for no charge ;)
What does interest me in donuts is grilled glazed donuts which are really really good..
