What This Neighborhood Needs …
A reader reports that the Carroll Court Pharmacy at Court and Carroll has closed its doors and will re-open as a bank. No doubt the bank will be a much more lucrative tenant than the rickety pharmacy (according to our tipster about $7,000 a month more lucrative). That block is starting to look like a chain magnet–Dunkin Donuts, the big Citibank. I wonder which storefront is next?
Update: The folks at 423 Smith are reporting it’ll be a Chase.

Maybe someone will tear down an entire city block and build a Walmart

Now they give us a Chase, after I finally changed all my accounts to North Fork and Apple Bank!!? Oh well, back to my day job at Peek-a-Boo Kids….
keep an eye on the old OTB (granted, it’s not on the same block but…) anyone been to a community board meeting lately? just wondering if anyone else is talking about this troubling trend…
I think the best way to respond to this troubling trend, is to not patronize the new businesses you don’t like. You won’t find me at KFC, DD or Chase. Keep going to all the local businesses and encourage more people to open non-corporate shops.
with rents and property values where they are i wonder how many “non-corporate” mom and pops can afford to open in our nabe…
Hear ya on the OTB. If I was a developer I would be all over that property.
Was checking out the DD work this weekend. They are getting close to openning. But the EIFS work looks horrible.
I hope this doesn’t meant that the awesome, always empty, staffed with people who are actually nice and helpful, Chase branch in Red Hook isn’t going to close.
But it probably will….

NO! The Chase bank in Red Hook can’t close!! But if it does, let it be a Peek-a-boo Kids outlet store…
Maybe it will become another American Apparel store.. heavens, Brooklyn needs a few more of those..
Any word on what’s going on in that stretch of Smith where the bike shop and Sur used to be? I know that practically the whole block is owned by one person (courtesy of Propertyshark.com) and heard something last year that all the buildings were going to come down but I wasn’t sure what was going in. More hideous condos? Nothing much seems to be happening there except for the rat poison warnings.
I would bet that all those buildings are coming down. They’re all in varying degrees of disrepair. I only hope they replace them with something that matches the architectural style of the neighborhood.

I am also very curious about that stretch of Smith. The bike shop has been closed for ages and I keep expecting something to open up but nothing does.
Does anyone know what is happening in the old pet store a couple doors down from Sweet Melissas? Or the storefront on Wykoff just off of Court?
I think if the OTB becomes a KFC I am going to cry for months!!
KFC tortures chickens flyers should be distributed at the local public schools. This is the business they are counting on. Also people from the projects. Get Peta involved. Lets do something to block this place that has no business in this neighborhood.
Yeah, lets keep those people from the Public Schools and the projects off of Court Street!!!!

That is horrible. I loved how I had no privacy in that place. . . how the whole neighborhood just went there, knew everyone. The homework that got done behind the counter and the nails that got poishsed. That’s so sad. I moved away from Luquer about 5 months ag (to a different city) and I’m amazed by all the changes. But I shouldn’t be. I know.
The Bike Shop didn’t close, they moved over to Union Street, between hicks and columbia. The owned just opened a new one on court street too. It is called “Court Cycles.”
