Newish Store Alert: Serimony

Serimony

There’s a lot of stuff in this teeny-tiny Brooklyn store that used to house a cosmetics shop. Stationery, T-shirts, jewelry, bags, even a full book of wedding invites pack Serimony. Kinda makes me think Tiny Living in the East Village could help the store make even more space for its wares.

I wonder if this spot is taking over being the Babu Bhat (ala Seinfeld) restaurant from across the street. BTW any word about Abilene?

Abilene is looking closer to completion every day, but as of last night, it wasn’t open. They’ve got blinds and curtains up now, so it’s harder to view the progress, but last time I peeked everything looked about ready. Tables were in place, lighting fixtures hung, bar finished … kinda looks like they are going for a midwest tiki lounge theme?

    Are they copying Floyd?

    weren’t we talking about Serimony?
    [ahem]
anyway, I’ve passed this tiny little beauty many a time on my trip to Mini Bar… very cutesy little place, but I have yet to see ANY customers in there… it’s tiny, indeed, but I haven’t seen anyone in the store to date – I hope they make it, gorgeous little store.

It’s probably full of people from Dennett Place but you just can see them at your height. ;-)

Hmmm… Were we talking about that? Possibly. It seems so fuzzy after that initial shot of tequila. I walk by that store every day on my way home from work, but I’m actually scared to walk in there–it’s too small. There’s no room to browse without feeling the pressure of the sales person sitting mere feet or inches away from you (no matter how nice they are or how much they politely pretend not to be paying attention to you). Some people may like this sense of familiarity, but I prefer a bit more anonymity to my shopping. Oh, and glad to see you’re reading the site ;)

As for Abilene copying Floyd, I don’t think so. It’s not that midwest. Perhaps midwest was the wrong adjective. it just had a touch of homey kitsch. I’d say it’s more midwest 50s kitsch with a touch of cocktail lounge thrown in. The way they’ve painted(?) the walls is very cool. Either it’s wallpaper, or they’ve painstakingly run an irregular gold line of paint down the wall every few inches. A lot of work and love has gone into the place, that’s for sure.
